Arms of Charm
Something Fab from Louise of Liverpool
by Timothy Tilghman
Performing their only East Coast appearance, Louise Harrison presents Liverpool Legends: The Ultimate "Beatles" Experience was standing room only at Hollywood On The Roof in Grantville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, April 17, 2010. Fans of the Fabs were clogging the aisles all around the stage.
The Fab tribute quartet of musicians has an uncommon pedigree having been hand selected by Louise Harrison, older sister of George Harrison who achieveed world wide fame as lead guitarist in The Beatles. Their concerts are anchored by a multimedia presentation prior to their performance that is highlighted by a video prologue that projects the hysteria of Beatlemania.
Those black & white images remain as striking today as they were originally in 1964, of a quartet of young musicians from Liverpool landing in America at JFK Airport on February 7. The press proclaimed it was a second British Invasion as the youth of the USA had fallen to the lads from Liverpool. However, it was clearly The Beatles who were shell-shocked by the outrageous reception they received.
America's love of all things Fab and The Beatles themselves has held fast for 46 years now with no signs of dying out. Indeed, it is a testament to their drawing power that Liverpool Legends intends to meet. Their Beatles catalogue review covers their musical phases from Mop Tops to psychedelic poets to iconic individuals complete with costume changes.
The look-alike Fabs are Kevin Mantegna as John, Bob Beahon as Paul, Marty Scott as George, and Greg George as Ringo. The lads sound-alike as well fulfilling their roles with musicianship and humor. Liverpool Legends has their own established residency at The Mansion in Branson, Missouri.
During the first intermission, Lousie Harrison came before the audience to discuss her fond memories of Beatlemania and share personal stories about her brother's largely unknown visit to America before the Fabs became Fab in September 1963. Louise lived in Benton, Illinois, and she welcomed her two brothers Peter and George Harrions for three weeks.
