Reigning Queen of Rock Sheryl Crow is supported
by Colbie Caillat
by Timothy Tilghman
It was a sold out show for Sheryl Crow at the Wolf Trap Filene Center in Vienna, Virginia, on Thursday, June 17, 2010. Securing a parking space required tactical strategizing outside the venue. Opening for Crow was the talented and lovely Colbie Caillat. The audience was treated to a lengthy engaging set from the emerging young vocalist.
Colbie Caillat was invited on stage by Crow to sing a duet on "Strong Enough" early in the concert. The blonde bombshells sang in tune like harmonious songbirds. Interjecting humorous commentary, Crow alluded to her advanced age by remarking she was old enough to be Caillat's mother.
Furthermore, Crow quipped during her in-between-lyrics banter that she would date a Republican, but never marry a Republican. Here's a trivia question you should try at home: What do Sheryl Crow and Sarah Palin have in common? These women both share the same birthday on February 11th!
Three new numbers debuted during her performance from her forthcoming album 100 Miles From Memphis scheduled for release next month. Crow began the concert with "Our Love Is Fading" and later showcased both the title track and "Summer Day", the anticipated first single off her new collection of material.
Stating that she was born and raised in Kennett, Missouri, within a hundred miles of Memphis, Crow acknowledged the influence and inspiration the region and her community has had on her music. She even went so far as to correct a member of the audience who mispronounced Missouri, the name of her home state which generated laughs all around.
Crow has so many hits to her credit that she clearly must pick and choose titles among her catalogue to entertain her fans as something will always be left out of her setlist that somebody will have wanted to hear her sing. Her diverse compositions along with a few cover tunes provided entertainment for everyone.
Crow has a succession of popular top selling albums that have fortified her career. Sheryl earned an elite musical pedigree by joining an exclusive group among highly successful musicians and composers. Crow was commissioned to write and record the James Bond film title to Tomorrow Never Dies in 1997.
