Crustacean Nation Inauguration
The Smithereens stake out second base for the Waldorf Blue Crabs

by Timothy Tilghman

The Smithereens, originating from New Jersey, provided live entertainment to the Southern Maryland audience prior to the launch of the Blue Crabs home season in Waldorf. The quartet performed an abbreviated set situated on a mobile flatbed, parked at second base. Only six songs long, they certainly pack a rock'n roll punch in their energetic delivery.

The Smithereens have the honor of appearing at Shea Stadium in Flushing, NY, on May 10, 2008. Shea holds the historic distinction as being the site of the very first outdoor stadium concert hosted by The Beatles on August 15, 1965. Sadly, Shea Stadium is slated for demolition. The 2008 Major League Baseball calendar will be its final season open to the public.

DiNizio mentioned that the band has a new live album slated for release this Spring. Additionally, they have recorded a new batch of Beatles songs for a follow up to their highly successful Meet The Smitereens issued in 2007.

Waldorf setlist: Only A Memory * Top Of The Pops * Yesterday Girl * Any Other Way * Blood And Roses > A Girl Like You
