THE ULTIMATE YES, 35 YEARS AND GOING STRONG!!!!
The journey continues for YES, the Grammy Award winning pioneers of progressive rock, as they continue their extremely successful Full Circle world tour. Conquering North America last year, the band is making their way across Europe and will soon tour Southeast Asia, Japan and Australia.
On July 17th, at Hyde Park in the UK, YES will be celebrating 35 years of music with a special event. Featuring the classic line-up of Jon Anderson (vocals), Chris Squire (bass), Steve Howe (guitar), Alan White (drums) and Rick Wakeman (keyboards) the band is stronger than ever: THE ULTIMATE YES.
Still viable in 2003, YES are currently experiencing a career renaissance with the world tour. On July 8th Rhino Records will release Yes Remixes a collection of YES songs remixed by The Verge (Steve Howe's son Virgil). This past February, Rhino began reissuing the complete works of YES with bonus material and will have them all out by the end of the year.
Last year they released the Yes box set, In A Word: YES (1969- ), the most definitive YES retrospective ever produced, featuring more than three decades of music, ranging from 1969's YES on Atlantic Records to 2001's Magnification on Beyond Records. There are also plans for a future release with entirely new music.
The consummate musicians band, YES, was formed in London in 1968, and has released 32 albums worldwide and sold over 35 million albums. Formed by Chris Squire and Jon Anderson, they surrounded themselves with other virtuostic musicians that have each topped 'best of' lists in publications like Guitar Player Magazine and Melody Maker (UK).
Beating out Led Zepplin for the title of "most sold out nights at Madison Square Garden", YES sold out 16 consecutive dates there. Their record still stands today.
They are renowned for elaborate stage shows that have pushed the limits of current day technology; including, the first quadraphonic sound system (70s) and the first ever surround sound system (1999).
YES also experimented with concertsonics (1984), which allowed anyone with a walkman to tune in and listen to the house mix over their headsets. In 1984, YES was nominated for three Grammy Awards winning Best Rock Instrumental track for "Cinema".
